Real Washing, Real Results

Our 5 Step Rug Cleaning Process
- Pre-wash inspection and dye testing. Every rug is photographed and measured. Then mapped for pre-existing wear, stains and structural weakness. We perform colorfastness tests on vegetable dyes and antique pigments to minimize the risk of bleeding during the wash.
- Dust extraction and Deep Dusting. Before water ever touches the fibers, we use specialized harmonic vibration to extract pounds of embedded grit, dander and abrasive soils that standard vacuums leave behind.
- Submersion hand-washing. Your rug is submerged in a pool of water to protect its delicate fibers. Your rug undergoes a tailored, pH-balanced submersion wash, hand-agitated to lift deeply trapped odors and oils.
- Fresh water rinse and centrifuge. A continuous flow of fresh water pushes out remaining soil and soap residue. The rug is then placed in a specialized centrifuge to safely extract most of the moisture in minutes, preventing color run.
- Climate-controlled drying and grooming. Rugs are hung in a hyper-ventilated, climate-controlled room to dry naturally. Finally, the pile is hand-groomed (determined by our skilled technicians ) and the fringes are detailed for a polished finish.
Turnaround is typically 7 to 10 days from pickup to delivery, including drying time.

Professional Rug Cleaning for Fine & Handmade Rugs
Fine rugs can hold years of dust deep in the pile far below what a vacuum reaches. At Rug Refinery we hand wash Persian, Oriental, Wool, Silk, Antique and Handmade area rugs. We offer our services all across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island.
Why fine rugs need specialist cleaning
Area rugs act as giant air filters in your home, trapping dust, grit and allergens that standard vacuuming can't lift. We inspect fibers, weave and dye stability before we start, then we use gentle dust extraction followed by a full submersion hand-wash technique. In our experience, this the best way to get rid of years of built up dirt, stains and odor.
We also handle COIs for clients in the Upper East Side, Tribeca, SoHo, the West Village and Brooklyn Heights.
Rug types we clean

- Turkish and kilim cleaning — Oushak, Anatolian and flatweaves, which need a different approach than pile rugs
